Shadow
Of Doubt
When I first
came to this town it was to have no plans
I was hoping for some space without any demands
Just to put my head down and clear some things out
To get away from the city and the shadow of doubt
When I left the city I left the rat race too
I left all the things they hold sacred and true
But it just didn't matter once my nerve dropped out
I couldn't keep on going inside that shadow of doubt
When it all comes
down, and it's time to be true
When it seems like everybody is counting on you
Will you hold your own, will you be there throughout
Or will you loose your nerve inside a shadow of doubt
I was playing
the high stakes I was up there on top
I was riding that roller coaster that just don't stop
You either ride to the end or you just bail out
And take that long hard fall into that shadow of doubt
Once you fall off it's hard to get back on
Once you loose the thread it's hard to finish the song
The audience was waiting but no notes would come out
I was standing in the spot light of that shadow of doubt
Now everyone
gets the jitters on opening night they say
But I just lost my nerve and I just couldn't play
But it was the voice in my head that I couldn't shut out
It was yelling this is no time to have a shadow of doubt
So I opted for
the easy life living day to day
Far from the tensions of the games they play
Far from the money and the men with clout
Far from a reason to have a shadow of doubt
It's been good for a while I tried to make it last
But you can only hide so long
from the ghosts of the past
I told myself, thats not what I'm all about
But inside my convictions there's a shadow of doubt
