Them Apples

Old drunk neighbour
Drives a 79 Buick le Saber
Into town, to the liquire store
To get some more of what it is he's craving for

Old drunk neighbour
Learned to tow the line
Through painfull farm labour
As a kid, yeah and like he said
He remembers other neighbours living
But they're all dead

Old drunk neighbour
Once moved away to Alberta
To escape all this
Yeah the family farm
And the apple biz
But when his brother died he was the last one left
Now it's all his

When I go see him you know
he looks right through me
And I'm wondering why I came around
When I ask him what he's been doing
He says watching them apples hit the ground

Old drunk neighbour
Plows the same field over and over
Perfectly straight, yeah he lays it up right
Letting all us other neighbours know he's still
alright

Old drunk neighbour
These days he sure ain't harvesting anything
He let his trees grow out, his barn roof caved in
Lately the whole place is starting to look like him

Old drunk neighbour
Sometimes I swear he's sober
But it's hard to say, I saw him yesterday
Early in the morning on my way to work
Yeah he waved at me
