Sailing
To The Sirens
Lionel
Lodge & Rens Newland
After over two years of playing live together
they decided to do an, across the boards, down the line duo
album. Well, it turned out to be a band album, full production
but still a crossing of the lines between Lionel and Rens'
musical worlds. Taking 11 of Lionel's new originals and sweeping
them through Rens' aural perceptions they produced an album
that laps up against many a different shoar.
The
most produced album in Lionel's catalogue, it shines with
the brilliance of Rens' arrangements and multinstrumental
ablities. They started each song with the basic acoustic guitar
duo and built it from there and the end result is a coral
landscape of stormy seas and promised calm. |
| "This
CD took a long time to make, we spent quite a bit of time
in the studio but mainly because during the year and a half
we were recording it there were many other things happening
and we had to fit it in between the studio's and our scheduels.
Some of the songs, like Song For Him, were recorded on the
same day they were written, which was great for me as I could
hold the mood that inspired the song and put that same emotion
into the vocals. We recorded it in Rens' studio, so we were
quite relaxed in the process and most of the time in was just
Rens and I in there sussing out the approach and dynamics
of the songs. We are very greatful to Maria De Silva, R'Becca,
Martina Eory and R.Dee for their gracefull backing vocals
and also to Bernhard Osanna for his groovy contra bass playing
on some of the songs. The artwork and design for the CD booklet
was the work of the gifted Sheila Ehm (s.ehm@i-one.at)
The photo of Moana was taken by Lothar Ponhold (www.ponhold.com)
and the one of Rens and I by Sigrid Müller. The CD is
available in Austria, Germany, Belgium and Portugal on Jive
Music and currently in other territories through the on-line
cd store CD Baby. Or alternatively
you can catch us at one of our shows and buy directly from
us. This way, in person you can also see if our traits are
showing, which, I would bet, by now, most probally are."
